A Joyful Maui Family Portrait Session at Kapalua Bay Beach with the Keatley Family.
After moving back home to Maui, I’ve been eagerly looking forward to photographing families on this side of the island again. What better way to begin than with the wonderful Keatley family, who traveled all the way from Florida to enjoy the beauty of Maui together?
Their family portrait session at Kapalua Bay Beach was absolutely my kind of session—joyful, relaxed, playful, and full of genuine connection. We spent the afternoon laughing, exploring the shoreline, and capturing the little moments that make a family session feel personal and unforgettable.
My favorite photography style is light, airy, and warm-toned, so this session felt like a perfect creative fit. In other words, these are the kinds of images that speak my photographer love language. Hahaha!
Kapalua Bay was lively that day and definitely not the quiet, private oasis we might have imagined. But with a few creative angles, thoughtful composition, and a little framing magic, we were able to create the feeling that the Keatleys had the entire shoreline to themselves. That’s one of my favorite parts of photographing in Maui—finding the beauty and intimacy in every setting, no matter how busy it may be.
This was my first family session on this side of the island since moving back from Oregon, and being there brought back so many wonderful memories. I had truly missed this place—the dramatic coastline, the soft island light, and the warm ocean breeze.
The Keatley family made this session such a joy, and I’m so grateful they trusted me to document their Maui memories. Their time here may have been temporary, but these photographs will help them return to this beautiful afternoon for years to come.
