Jonah & Kayla's Maui Proposal: How a Professional Rugby Player Planned the Perfect Surprise Engagement.
Recently, I had the honor of photographing a surprise proposal for Jonah and Kayla. Jonah reached out to me about capturing his proposal, and of course, I was excited to join him on the mission. Over the following weeks, we exchanged emails and met through a Zoom call to carefully plan every detail of the day. As we got to know each other throughout the planning process, I learned that Jonah is a professional rugby player who played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Australia's National Rugby League (NRL). While that was certainly impressive, what stood out even more was how thoughtful and committed he was to creating the perfect proposal for Kayla.
The planning came together beautifully, and Kayla never suspected a thing.
We chose Poolenalena Beach as the location for the proposal, and everything seemed to align perfectly that afternoon. The weather was beautiful, the ocean was calm, and the beach was surprisingly quiet. It almost felt as though we had the entire shoreline to ourselves. Of course, no proposal setup would be complete without a beautiful floral arrangement. Waiting for them on the sand was an elegant flower circle designed and set up by Aloha Maui Flowers, creating the perfect setting for one of the most important moments of their lives.
When the moment finally arrived, Jonah led Kayla into the circle and got down on one knee. The surprise, emotion, and pure joy on their faces were incredible to witness. These are the moments that remind me why I love photographing proposals so much.
After the proposal, we continued with an engagement session around the beach. With the secret finally revealed, they were able to relax, laugh, and simply enjoy being together while celebrating their exciting new chapter.
