Rain, Rain, Go Away: A Maui Photographer’s Joyful Morning at Kula Country Farms Pumpkin Patch.
It was a beautiful Maui morning when we took our son Scotty to Kula Country Farms’ pumpkin patch to explore and play. The weather teased us all day — brief showers that left the air fresh and bright — but nothing could dampen his excitement. Rain, rain, go away; come again some other day — little Scotty wanted to be in the patch, chasing leaves and inspecting every pumpkin he could find.
Scotty moved through the rows with wide-eyed curiosity. He poked at vines, inspected stems, and sat with small pumpkins as if deciding which stories they held. Along the way he met other kids, sharing shy smiles at first and then laughter as they compared finds and traded tips on which pumpkins were best for rolling. Parents lingered nearby, camera lenses capturing tiny hands and sun-splashed faces.
The patch was a perfect mix of color and texture: deep orange gourds, mottled mini pumpkins, and green vines curling over rich soil. Drops from the morning rain clung to leaves and pumpkin skins, making everything gleam under the warm sun. Scotty’s joy was simple and contagious — a sudden run, a triumphant lift of a pumpkin he thought too heavy, a discovery of a hidden squash tucked under a leaf.
By midday we left with pockets full of small pumpkins and a head full of memories. Maui’s playful weather had only added to the day’s charm: unpredictable, fresh, and full of surprise — just like Scotty at the pumpkin patch.
